Emily’s week 16 prompt was to have someone else contribute to your journal card.  Corey has always admired my work (isn’t he sweet!) so I thought I’d seeif he wanted to join me and do a card.  He did, and let me tell you, he continues to amaze me every day.  Here is his contribution:

The cool thing about this is that it represents both the early days of our relationship as well as the recent months of our marriage.  We’ve shared a love of the Monkees since we were dating, and he has listened to nothing else for the last few months.  It also represents him getting someone else to help him – his mom helped him make a replica Monkees shirt to wear. Bonus points for pop-up action – “to highlight the placket” says he. And he is extra-proud of his ingenuity in using holes made with the hole punch for the buttons.  Oh, and he even used paper from the scrap-pile. Best – hubby – ever!

I also finally finished scrapping a page about my wonderful weiner dog.  I did this for the challenge at a true friend a priceless treasure. I am so excited to find a scrapping blog all about pet pages.  Here is my page for the first challenge.  Unfortunately my scanner only does 8.5 x 11, so I had to take a photo – I still haven’t mastered photographing layouts.

Iworked pretty hard on this and I am so happy with how it turned out.  This is one of our favorite photos of this dog.  Her world is the weeniverse and she is kind enough to share it with us.  I am excited to scrap all our little Schatze-isms – we have a million.

I’ve been thinking April 30, 2007

I am going to do Kathryn’s 15 minute timer thingie tonight.  I am having trouble choosing between getting things cleaned up aropund the house and doing fun creative things, so I am going to do both.  I’ll have the happiness of a home I can be proud of, a beautiful environment to live in, and the joy that comes from being creative.  I’ll sneak some time in to go pick up ink and my bargain on photo paper, swing by the library, and swing by my mom’s… And a walk?  See, this is how I end up trying to do too much.  I’ve decided to save the yardwork for tomorrow, but I’m still trying to get loads in tonight.  But If I don’t *waste* time staring into space or whatever I do, I should be allright.  I hope, lol. =)

I just love that word.

Ali had a very interesting post today. I have been thinking abotu making some changes to the way I live, so it comes at a good time. I’ll be meditating on this a bit. I tend to just get oerwhelemed with the way things *are* and try to change them all at once, which is overwhleming in itself.  I always feel that I don’t have enough time to do the things I *have* to do and the things I *want* to do. So I need to find a way to use my time more effectively.  More to come…

I had hoped to have a few scrapbook pages to share, but I didn’t get anything completed.  So, instead, I’ll share some photos from my day.

My mom, her cousin, and another cousin’s wife:

Another quote for Corey…

Today we had a goodbye lunch and a goodbye visit to the bar for another co-worker who leaves us tomorrow. And tomorrow is the going away bash for my boss. Next week another colleauge moves to another building, and shortly those of us who remain move to another floor. And that’s just work.

I picked up a Fiskar’s stamp press today. I’m not sure I need it, but someone said it looked like I would.  Now I am *really* outta hand.  I’m sure I will use it.  If I don’t use it within the week I will just be sure to take it back.  I also got my very own copy of Visual Chronicles – this is a very cool book. It’s one of many I got from the library and the only one I decided to buy for myself. I look forward to trying the techniques for myself.

No scrapping today, just some cards in the works. I’m definitely going to try and get some layouts done Saturday.  Anyone want to crop with me virtually?

Memories April 25, 2007

It is amazing to me how all of your senses can be wrapped up in a memory.  And the one that makes me think about this is kind of random.  I remember  the day I first bought the book The Outsiders.  It was a Saturday, March 17th, 1984. I had to look up the year, but I know it was a Saturday. I was standing outside after my PSR class and one of the girls had just taught us the phrase Erin Go Bragh.  It was sunny and warm and everything smelled like Spring.  Someone mentioned that there was a new bookstore opening up where the old elementary school used to be.  When my mom picked me up I asked if we could go.  The new store was called Waldenbooks.  It smelled so good in there – like warm paper.  i *love* the smell of books so much.  I wandered for a very long time looking at all the choices – it ws so wonderful.  I can still see the YA section and myself pulling The Outsiders off the shelf. I don’t know if I bought anything else, but I remember that so vividly.  I read that book so much it fell apart. I had already seen the movie before I got the book, so I was surprised by how much more than was in the movie was in that book.

I am certain I still have that copy of the book at my mom’s house somewhere.  Recently I bought a hardbound copy used somewhere.  Maybe I will do an altered book on books I love.

I spent so much time through the years at that store.  It was close enough that I could walk or ride my bike.  I would spend hours there and buy stacks and stacks of books. They didn’t have cozy chairs or a coffee shop but it was always my favorite store. When I needed a job in college I went there immediately. I worked there from 1993 until 1997 when I got a *real* job.  And when I couldn’t find a job after being laid off, I went right back there. I worked with some wonderful people throught the years.  I don’t really stay in touch with them, but I do remember them often. I even had a picnic in the back parking lot when Corey came to visit me.  I have to look and see if I ever scrapped the photos we took there. If not maybe I’ll work on that this week.

The store closed a few years ago. It’s a Vitamin Shoppe now…

I haven’t been able to concentrate well for days.  Today I decided to remedy this with coffee.  Instead of helping I stayed tired, became more frazzled then ever, and may have way overspent on shipping for some stamps I’ve been hunting for weeks. Now I am headed off to see the progress being made on the shite-hole. Hopefully I can help with the jobs, but mostly I expect to be in the way.  I can feel a meltdown coming…

why you should never leave home without a camera April 23, 2007

For most of  my life I would *never* leave the house without a paperback book to read. These days, in addition to a novel I tend to bring a totebag filled with stuff that at any time may include: a journal, a pen, my camera, scrapbook idea books, art journal books, crocheting, crocheting books or magazines, my ipod, bills to pay, mail.

Today I was going to get my eyebrows done, so all I had were the books and journal, because you just never know how long you might have to wait. I was pretty into one of the journaling books when I got called, so after the little hairs were ripped off of my face I decided to head to the park and read some more. I headed to a place I had only been once before, but I remembered that a) there was a place to sit near the parking lot, and b) there was a creek close to the parking lot so if it started to rain again I could just sit in my car and still see the water.

The picnic table at the parking lot wasn’t wet, so I had a seat and decided to write in my journal first.  I got pretty engrossed, but decided that my words weren’t cutting it, I wanted pictures.  All I had was my crappy cell phone, so instead of nice clear pictures to capture the textures that so fascinated me, I ended up with these photos.

I felt like a big dork with my starbucks, franklin, and pink and orange totebag, let me tell you. I don’t even *like* pink, but I do like it in combination with certain other colors these days. Anyway, next time I’ll have to bring the camera, even if it is just for a trip to the salon. Although I have to admit, I do like the table picture.

projects April 22, 2007

I *love* doing projects! I really do.  It is the weekend crop for a couple of my online groups. One one we made up our own bingo cards of things we want to do, and we could include some non-scrap things on there. I included finishing Corey’s hat and workin on the mini journal cards. I am happy to say, the hat is done! My very first crocheted hat.  I am so flippin’ thrilled that I made this thing, and it isn’t halfbad. I’m not certain it is what he had in mind, but I think I have enough  yarn left to make another, longer hat. Without further ado, here it is:

And in action on my head – don’t I look pissed?

I also did still another journal card - ephemera from my week – the week 5 challenge. I had beenhangin onto some of it for various reasons and just decided to use it all on this card. I liked making something that moved by using the key tag. Ganley is a great dealership – they washed my car, the now have extended hours, and they even have internet in the waiting room. The business card is from #1 Pho – my first trip ever to a Vietnamese restaurant was this week.  The food was fab, but my friend ordered this weird shake thing that had just a bit of coconut milk, beans, *emerald* jello, something yellow that is beleived to be corn, and hen a *mountain* of shaved ice. I still think he ordered it to get a laugh out of us, but he insists he thought there would be more coconut milk and it would be good…

Anyway, C*, A* and I are addicted to scratch off tickets at work. It’s bad, but oh so fun.  When I saw the Cast to GO card I thought for sure I would win, after all, that word shows up in my life almost daily when I read Ali & Kal’s blogs. Alas, I did not win. I did win 10 on a bingo card later in the week.  I also had to include my Archivers receipt, since I shopoped there Monday and cropped there Friday. And then there is Fatburger – Corey’s favorite burger joint.  The grill was down when we went there Tuesday night, but we ot free chocolate shaked for waiting – yum! The back of the card is a piece of the insert from my new comforter – I love it! The colors are so lovely.  I scibbled this up with some colored pencils, labeled it with a sharpie, and stapled on alittle tab made from a piece of the invitation from a bridal shower I attended last night.  I actually did the cad when I got home around 1:30 – so much fun!
