440 used to be my area code. And the 440s are some band we saw at a Trash Brats show. But more importantly, $440 is how much Coery and I raised or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with our walk today! Thank you all so much for your help! I’ll share some pics tomorrow.

vending machine fun September 28, 2007

Filed under: life — onlysleepn @ 10:01 am

The vending machines at my old job were always on the fritz. We quickly learned that you could put in a dollar bill and get out change without buying anything. So when the round-about would only take dollar bills if you put them right side up and facing left, it was easier to use coin. And when we cleaned out the coins in the chip machine, we used the pop machine to get exact change for chips.

Why am I thinking about this today? My dryer broke a couple of weeks ago. I leave 2 doors down from a laundromat, so rather than run right out and get a new one, I decided to either hang the clothes, or use the laundromat. But the washer is fine (I think), so I am faced with carrying wet laundry down the street. I had enough motivation to do this today, so the clothes are in the dryer. Which only takes quarters. And I ran out. So I decided to experiment. And if you put 2 dimes and a nickel in the pop machine – it gives you a quarter back! Yay!

OK, this is so not a big deal, but it made me happy and saved a few trips back and forth…

yesterday’s post September 26, 2007

Filed under: life — onlysleepn @ 11:12 am

This was meant to be yesterday’s post, but I was way too tired.

It’s a good thing I took the picture I poste dyesterday. Some critter has already begun eating my pumpkin! The other 5 pumpkins are still intact so far…

We got DVR!!!! I am so freakin thrilled, but so far it doesn’t work so great. I never noticed any issues with my mom’s satellite DVR. We have cable, which is probably the problem. But anyway, I like it. I can finally tape CSI Miami all day until I see them all, AND I can tape NCIS, which is a show I love but only ever watch at my moms. And Two and a Half Men is now in syndication, so we can see all those old episodes we miss. Plus, it is on DVD, so we might go that route.

I have started one of these: http://leewoodside.typepad.com/a_little_bit_of_this_and_/2007/06/create.html

Sunday Scraps September 23, 2007

Filed under: scrapbook — onlysleepn @ 11:01 am

I did my first layout for One Little Word. I’ve been reading them since the blo started, but I’ve never actually done one before. The prompt is “Perfect” and of course that makes me think of Schatze. Here is the page I did.

I am experimenting with photographing my layouts on the little weathered bench outside my door. Mom and I are going to go look for pumpkins and mums for said bench in just a few. Mmm, and cider too.

I also did a layout for Lain’s 30 minute challenge over on scrap happy and the simple scrapbooks studio blog. You can see it here. http://www.simplescrapbooksmag.com/gallery/details.ihtml?idx=74542

Phases one and two of my reorganization were successful. I finished a few thing onmy desk and put EVERYTHING that didn’t belong there away. I went through my plastic bins of embellishments and put everything in baggies by type: metal letters, acrylic pieces, chipboard alphabets, etc. I put the stuff I use alot in the big tote and the things I won’t use as much in the little one. This will let me take whatever I need t0 crops, and I didn’t have to buy anything new. It worked, too. I did the perfect layout quickly, because I could find everything I wanted to try on it. Phase 3 is the PSB – a very daunting task.

rapid fire inside jokage September 22, 2007

that was corey’s hilarious phrase of the day. RMS came over to hang out. I met them at the bar, and n the way home they were cruising the mall, something about a music video and hiding behind a brick wall, which was followed by a story about a rodeo and an ox with corn in it’s eye. I didn’t get any of it, but I did have a pretty drink at the bar. I think it was called New York City Lemonade.

this and… this September 21, 2007

this is why I need a digital slr

this is a layout I did after winning a prize off of the fiskateers blog. I think this might be the first time I ever won anything from a bloggy contest. I could be wrong, though. And this is the post where you can read my comment.

this post is the reason why i did the layout, thinking i could do something quick. but no. i have  serious organization problem. i knew exactly what i wanted to put on this page and had a hard time finding any of it. so tonight i clean the scrap table, finish some more UFOs, and get to organizing.

inspiration is everywhere, but not acting on it is frustrating…

layouts!!! September 20, 2007

Filed under: scrapbook — onlysleepn @ 4:48 pm

I’ve already gotten sidetracked several times today, and I fear it will happen again, so I am going to share some recent layouts now. I may update this post later, depending on how the evening goes.

**** update 1 ****

OK, I had to add this. I love when Aly does her Sunday Googleage, but I NEVER have any interesting ones in my list (I barely have a list) but today I had one make me laugh. And it’s probably not all that funny, but hey, I got a laugh. Someone got to my blog by searching “scrapbook pages with green beans.” Did I do such a thing???

**** update 2 ****

I completed a couple of things I have been wanting to get to for a while. The first is this incredibly cute coupon book I saw on the Scrap Happy blog. Do you scrap happy? Lain Ehmann has a blog that is always packed with layouts and projects. She has a countdown to Christmas going on, and I just love this little coupon book. I made one for myself because my purse is filled with coupons but I still never have the one I want. I can’t wait to fill it up! Lain also has a Scrap Happy podcast which I like to listen to. Product reviews, interviews, essays, contests and just tidbits about the life of a real person. Very down to earth and fun. And her product reviews are cool because she lets you know what she likes and what she doesn’t about whatever she’s talking about. Whew, anyway, here is what I made:

A few years ago I decided to keep a book journal, to keep track of what I’ve read. At the time I planned to put some scrap pages in there with scans of covers and some embellishments. I did a few like that, but not many. This is the source of many unused stickers in my PSB, by the way. I also stopped keeping track of the books.  I am also always keeping lists of books I want to read, but they get lost. Ans lastly, I try to keep track of my favorite mystery series so I can keep an eye out for the new books. But that list of authors has gotten out of control and I tend to forget many of them. So, I decided to get my journal back out and use it again. And since I have all these unused supplies and a burgeoning interest in the whole art journal thing (not that this is an art journal by any stretch, I just like my pages to have color now), I decided to decorate the page for my “to read” list. And as you can see, I can’t remember most of the titles that should be on there…

Draw! September 19, 2007

Filed under: mini art journal challenge — onlysleepn @ 4:54 pm

For what it’s worth, breaking my scanner just might mean I get to buy a ne one that will scan something larger than an 8×10 photo. For what it’s worth, I think there is just a messed up spot on one place, so I can still scan little stuff.

And scan I did. Here is my card for the latest prompt for Emily’s Deck of Me challenge, I actually did this one in a somewhat timely fashion. The prompt was Draw Something.  I did my 2 favorite doodles – flowers and dragonflies. I did them in PEN. I just rolled up my sleeves and went for it. I love how it turned out. The bg is some cardstock I inked up a few years ago, and the border is some odd leftover peices from a roll of stickers.

These are my fall flowers – I love this time of year. Do you think it is a coincidence that so many of the people whose writing, scrapping, and art I am drawn to say the same thing?

A New Day September 19, 2007

Filed under: life, weight loss — onlysleepn @ 6:39 am

Ever since Corey started working mornings I have been saying I would get up with him. This rarely happens. This week, instead of being at work by 6 AM he needs to be there by 5 AM. I made the same promise.

Today, I actually got up at 4:15 with him. So far today I have:

1. Made Corey coffee

2. Updated my checkbook entries

3. Caught up on some favorite blogs

4. Random tidying I’ve been meaning to do for days

5. Started my new Deck of Me card

6. Made coffe for myself (Pumpkin Spice!)

7. Broke my scanner

This is all good, and now when Corey is ready for bed I will be too. And, for those of you who have been paying attention, after a total disregard of Jenny Craig for the last week, and a partial disregard even before that – I am back at it. I just gave chocolate away AND threw away a bag of potato chips. For what it’s worth, I don’t actually like potato chips much, but I don’t like to throw away food. But no one has been eating these chips (leftover from a party) and wanted junk so badly yesterday I started eating them. That’s just stupid. So they are gone.
