get ready…. October 30, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — onlysleepn @ 9:16 pm

I am so excited about this weekends online crop with the Fiskateers! Its 4 days of scrappy goodness, and I plan on doing something each day.  My cousin and her daughter will be here on Saturday – I hope to do some major stash reduction AND make a dent in my Christmas card pile. I just found out Corey will be at a party on Sunday, so there will be an open spot at my table for fellow crafters on Sunday after 2 (I am finally getting a haircut and the all important eyebrow wax!)

I am SO tired right now – but I can’t settle down. Tomorrow is going to be another long one as it’s halloween and I can’t wait for the trick-or-treaters…

I needed a last minute costume on Satuday. I searched many a website until I came up with one that worked for me – Mother Nature:

What is your Halloween costume?

And here is a picture from yesterday’s walk in the woods:

I completed the last hike in the Walking Works Series today. It was a gorgeous day for it, too. But chilly. Look for a photo or 2 later this week, as well as a photo of me in my halloween costume from last night.

I really do liket his blog. I was skimming some old posts trying to get the date I did the first hike, and I really enjoyed looking back at the pictures and the things I had to say. =)

Today was a rough day for me in that I missed Schatze terribly while seeing all teh dogs at the dog park, and I spent some time with someone who seems to “have everything.” I know this is not true, this person just has some “things” that I have lost and some that I have not acheived yet. It was really hard not to melt down and I felt really out of place and out of sorts. So then I wallowed for a bit, and then I did a few things to pick myself up. It seems like I am getting a little better at making improvements in my quality of life. So I did some things that were good for me, I made some of the same promises I always make to myself, and I made some new ones. So I’m just going to see where this takes me for a bit…

last day off October 27, 2007

Today was my last official day of vacation. Of course, I don’t work Saturday or Sunday, but still…
I was going to go to a concert with Corey tonight but decided to skip it since I really didn’t want to go. I wanted to scrap. But, as has become the norm, I didn’t. I read, I went grocery shopping, I did the dishes, I played tennis and baseball (Wii) and spent some time online. I did cut some rickrack for my mini album, but I haven’t completed anything. This is what my coffee table looks like:

(You may recognize this as another one of those minibooks Shimelle demoed on Fiskars TV)

This afternoon I met Corey at Red Robin for lunch. Since he had to go to back work I went to the Brecksville Reservation by myself. I did the 7th of my Walking Works hikes. This one was very hilly and 2.5 miles long. What a workout!

Although all the parks in the series are part of one system, I am astounded by how differently the trails are marked. The first one I attempted had lots of smaller trails leading off of it, and barely had any trail markers. I had to give up on it because I was worried about getting lst. I do plan to go back with a trail map someday, but those maps are pretty sketchy. 2 of the other trails in the series actually had special little “Walking Works” markers pointing you in the right direction to begin the hike, which as nice. I can’t imagine why they did that for soem of them, but not all of them. Especially one I did a couple of weeks ago – the start of the trail was so hard to find a helpful pointer would have been lovely.

The trail I completed today was fairly well marked. However, I began to get a little nervous becuase there is one small issue with hiking in the fall. The leaves totally obscure the trail in places. This signpost made me laugh today, since it appeared in the middle of a sea of leaves:

And I’m not sure if I wandered off the path, or if hikers really are meant to cross this creek during this particular hike:

I have 1 more hike to complete before Wednesday. I actually started 2 additional ones, but since I didn’t get too far I can’t count them. It’s too bad, because I went way out of my way to do the last one today. It was at Worden’s Ledges, which has some really cool carvings. It was raining and it turns out the trail is all grass and mud rather than hard packed dirt or pavement, so I had to give up.

I did get over to a store not to far from there where I can buy A2 envies in a variety of colors for 4 cents each, and cardstock for $1 a pound. I had not one sheet of brown 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock and no envies for Christmas cards, so I got that before the November shopping ban.

Anyway, this is the prettiest picture of the ones I took in Brecksville today:

Happy Birthday Matt! October 25, 2007

Yesterday was such a fabulous day. I did a little bit of scrapping and then Corey and I went to his sister’s house. As  family we played Wii for ages, ate a delicious Mexican dinner, and then carved pumkins. Some of the results are below – can you pick out Corey’s pumpkin?

Today my mom and I had lunch with Amy – and taught her all about Wii bowling, lol. My cousin is one of my favorite people in all the world, and I love spendng time with her.

Since lunch I toasted some pumkin seeds (yummy), did laundry (yamn), traded the summer clothes for winter (brrr), caught up on some tv shows (yay), and did a bit of scrapping. Still trying to finish a few UFOs, but it’s slow going. In my ongoing saga of lost and found I located Coreys new Monkees shirt which was misplaced before he ever got to wear it. And I have lost the piece of cardstock meant to be the last page of my mini-album for the 2nd time. But while trying to find it I located a pair of scissors and a spool of ribbon I had been looking for. I also found some tools I forgot I had -  it’s like shopping in my own house!

I way overdid it today. I spent like crazy – it’s gross. So, for the month of November, I am going “no buy” on scrapbook supplies (except for adhesive, of course. and anything needed to make christmas cards or gifts).  Better yet, Corey will get any Archivers coupons I receive. Yikes. I’ve never actually decided to do a no buy before, but today was just a mess. It started with a trip to Joann’s just to use my 40% off coupons that expire tomorrow on adhesive.  I also decided that if Joann’s had the Life Artist book or the Bind It All I would use a 50% off on one of those. If I got a bind it all I would give it to Corey or my mom to give me for Christmas. Seriously.

But when I got there the adhesive was already 30% off. And Joann stopped being awesome and taking the coupon discount if it was better than the sale price (this burns me up). So I got one box of Vario refills. I found some Heidi Swapp clear flowers to use on pages of my mom, so I decided to use a coupon on that. And the other would go towards a refill for my dymo gun. Cardstock was 5 for $1, so I bought 15 sheets. I found the DVD section and decided to use my 50% coupon on a “learn to knit” dvd.

When I got to the counter, all of these items were already on sale. I HATE when they don’t put sales signs up on sale items at craft stores. This is a waste of my time. So I didn’t buy the DVD, got the rest, and told the unfriendly clerk that it was as bad as shopping at Michael’s in there today. I don’t shop at Michael’s unless I am desperate.

After this I stopped in at Archivers to get my free cardstock and hotspot item for October. And I was just going to see if the Ali bok was there, and if I really wanted it. I ended up getting the cardstock, hotspot item, Basic Grey Mellow pack (I still haven’t used Peripherary or recess which I went to get specifically last time), 2 sets of K & Company carstock tags,  Kally Panacci clear stamps (journalling) and the Ali Edwards book. This is ridiculous. Especially since the only scrapping I’ve done all week is to (finally) print the photos for my mom’s pet album and stick about half of them down. So, tonight I plan to do at least 1 layout, and use up as much of this stuff as I can.

And, in case you were wondering, we got carried away at Best Buy as well, getting more stuff for the Wii. Grrr.

i *heart* the internet October 22, 2007

I was sacked out on my mom’s couch reading Christietown, when I had a thought and jumped up to check something out online. One the way to the computer I got distracted and handed out some treats to the pets. And then I sat down at the computer. But Ihave no idea why I came in here. Was it to check my mail? Maybe. But there was nothing earth shattering in there. I did see an old email about signing up for the Wellness class at Big Picture Scrapbooking, so I took care of that. Was it to check blogs? Maybe. I read a few of my favorites, which of course made me want to scrap, but I don’t think that was it. I did see this awesome acrylic album Ali did which made me want to do an acrylic album all the more. And this post made me wish even more that I could shop at this store. If any of you live near Westbrook, CT, please go shop at the Scrapbook Clubhouse for me. And if Lucy is there, pet her for me.

Maybe I was going to do an inventory search at Borders.com to see if they have any of the books I’d like before I go there. I doubt they have them, so I had already decided not to look.  So honestly I have no idea why I got up, but one very enjoyable half hour later I have spent $40 and gotten lots of inspiration. Next I’ll be looking up some cute ideas for cards out of paper scraps, but feel free to post your favorites in the comments.

Happy Vacation To Me! October 22, 2007

Filed under: life — onlysleepn @ 5:26 am

As I planned what to do on my first real day of my vacation, I alternated between sleeping in as late as I possibly could, and getting up nice and early and taking advantage of every minute. After staying up past midnight last night, I assumed I would sleep in without even thinking about it.  But after yet annother very vivid dream this morning I woke up at 5:52. Since I decided to call Corey and tell him about my dream, I am STILL up half an hour later. I don’t get up this early for work! So I’ve thrown in a load of laundry, started tidying the kitchen table to get ready for all that scrapbooking I plan to do, and now I am going to crawl back in bed and start watching a movie. This way, I still have the option of falling back to sleep, lol. I LOVE vacation!

How cute is this dog wearing a sweater?

Long weekend October 21, 2007

Filed under: life — onlysleepn @ 10:03 pm

I am so tired!  It’s game 7 of the playoffs and I can’t bear to watch the Indians. I hate Boston, so I hope the Indians kick some ASS!

Friday night I went to helpl Tina set up for the wedding. What an exhausting project – she’s such a hard worker. We had that hall looking gorgeous, though. Her colors were red back and white – very sharp. (I’ve been listening to to the Shopaholic books on CD so I really wanted to say smart instead of sharp, lol). Anyway, I was home by 10:30, but still had to make the card and some “reserved” cards for some tables.

I managed to wake up at 7 AM completely refreshed. I grabbed a pumpkin spice latte from starbucks and headed off for wedding fun. I haven’t downloaded pics yet, but I ended up getting some huge hair! I also got to spend the whole day running around with the brideand helping her get ready – what fun.

The wedding was wonderful! Tina and Ryan are so cute. The party was so much fun – I love when Corey dances with my mom. And veryone loved when he pulled out the 8’s moves to Bobby Brown.

Today I woke up feeling hung over even though I had only had about 3 sips of champagne. But I couldn’t waste a moment of this beautiful fall day. So many leaves are changing right now. The day was so warm, a little breezy, and gorgeouly sunny. Corey headed off to the studio to work on his solo album.. Mom and I checkedd out a local pumpkin patch and ate some fall treats. The only pumpkins we got were 3 minis. I was hoping it was a pick-your-own patch, but no dice. So we headed over to the Mill Stream Run reservation and checked off one of the hikes in the walking works series.

After I got back to my own house I decided to do one of the more strenuous hikes in the series and headed out to another park. I ended up doing 2 before meeting mom for Chinese. I then talked her into watching amovie with me – isn’t she a good sport? We were going to watch Failure to Launch, but the library DVD was crap, so we watched Blades of Glory instead. I don’t know why I wait so long to watch Will Farrell movies. The Anchorman was so much funnier than I thought it would be, and so was this. So I guess I’ll see the rest.

Well, the Indians are still down a run. It’s back to CSI Miami until I can’t stay awake longer, I guess. I LOVE being on vacation.
